Things to Know this Week (April 18th)

RCS Families,

Happy Good Friday!

This weekend, we pause to remember and celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. From the very beginning—when sin first separated us from God—He has been working to redeem us. Throughout the Bible, we see His loving and redemptive hand, always inviting humanity back into relationship with Him.

At the heart of this story is the greatest gift: God sent His one and only Son to be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins (John 3:16-17). Each of us has fallen short and needs a Savior. Yet, through faith in Jesus Christ, we are offered grace, forgiveness, and redemption (Romans 3:22-24). As Christ gave His life for us, God’s love was fully revealed. The Apostle Paul reminds us: “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this—while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Here's what’s happening at RCS:

Easter Break – April 21–25

RCS will be closed for Easter Break next week. BASC will be open April 21st – 23rd. SLC will be open April 21st – 24th

RCS Auction – A Record-Breaking Success!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on April 4th for an unforgettable evening! Together, we raised over $117,000—our most successful auction yet! More than $40,000 of that will go toward building three homes during next year’s RCS Mission trips. This generosity helps lower trip costs and opens the door for more students to serve. We are so grateful for your support!

New Life Office Construction – Starts Next Week

Construction will begin next week on a new office building for New Life Church, located at the end of our parking lot near Starbucks. This project reflects the church’s deep commitment to RCS. Four years ago, when we faced a space shortage, Pastor Troy Jones and the New Life Board made the decision to move their offices offsite to free up space for five additional classrooms. Today, more than 120 RCS students are here because of that sacrifice. As construction begins, let’s celebrate the incredible support from New Life Church, which continues to create space for more students to learn about Jesus. The construction area should have minimal impact to school operations.

Grandparents Day – May 2nd, 11am–1pm

We’re excited to welcome grandparents to campus for a special day of celebration! They’ll enjoy chapel with Pastor Freddie, a Chick-fil-A lunch, and classroom presentations. Click here to register a grandparent by April 25th. We’re also looking for parent volunteers to help make this day extra special. Sign up to serve and be part of the fun!

Spring Book Fair – May 2nd–8th | 8am–4pm in the Library

Our Spring Book Fair, hosted by I:55, features a great selection of Christ-centered, family-friendly books curated to align with RCS values. Browse the collection here. The fair will be open during Grandparents Day (10:30am–3:00pm) and throughout the following week (Monday–Thursday, 8am–4pm).

New Lunch Program – Starting May 1st

We’re excited to partner with School Eatery to bring fresh, wholesome lunch options that students will love beginning on May 1stClick here to set up your parent account and order. Use Renton Campus code: RCS1.

2025 Yearbook | Order Today

Don’t miss the opportunity to get a yearbook for your student. Click here to preorder your 2025 yearbook. Deadline: May 23rd

Future RCS High School Campus Update

We continue to make progress on our future high school campus at Lakepointe (between Covington and Maple Valley). In May, our architects will be onsite to develop schematic designs (interior building designs). Our construction team has been working with the Army Corp of Engineers to mitigate some wetlands, preparing civil engineering designs, and assisting in the entitlement process. We remain committed to seeing this future campus become a reality. After Easter Break, we’ll share more about how you can help with the remaining funds we need to purchase this property and its continued development.

Have a great weekend and Easter Break! He is Risen!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

Spring is almost here — one of my favorite times of the year! This week, we passed the 101st day of school, and it was a joy to see our creative 1st grade classes celebrate by dressing up like dalmatians. I’m continually encouraged by the academic growth we’re seeing across all grades. Just this morning, a parent stopped me to share how amazed they were by their student’s learning progress.

Even more, I’m encouraged by the spiritual growth happening on campus. Many students have made the life-changing decision to follow Jesus as their Lord and Savior this year. Some have shared this decision publicly at their churches, in their classrooms, and soon, during our upcoming Baptism Chapel. God is truly at work at RCS, and I want to thank you for your continued partnership and prayers.

Prayer & Encouragement:

This week, fresh beauty bark was added to our landscaping areas — a simple sign that spring is just around the corner. I always love the smell of new bark because it reminds me that growth and renewal are happening. Soon, our cherry trees will begin to bloom, and I can’t help but think of how often Jesus used nature to illustrate spiritual truths.

In Luke 8:4-15, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower, describing how seed falls on different types of soil, producing very different results. The seed represents God’s Word, while the soil represents our hearts. The same seed is scattered, but the condition of the soil determines its fruitfulness. In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul describes the kind of fruit that grows in a life aligned with Christ: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

How fruitful is your life right now? If the previous list doesn’t describe your current season, I encourage you to examine your connection with Christ. In John 15:1-17, Jesus promises that if we remain connected to Him, we will bear fruit.

My prayer for each of you is that this spring would be a season of spiritual growth — one where you are refreshed, strengthened, and nourished by the love of Christ.

Have a great weekend!

Prayer & Encouragement:

On this Valentine's Day, I want to remind you of the overwhelming, unshakable love that Christ has for each of us. As Romans 8:35-39 declares, nothing—neither hardship, nor distance, nor fear—can separate us from God’s love. His love is the anchor that holds us firm through every season of life. Whether you are facing challenges or celebrating joys, know that God’s love is constant, a perfect love that supports and strengthens.

SLC is open regular hours on February 18th & 19th. SLC will close at 4pm on February 20th and will be closed on February 21st for Teacher In-service.

Snow Impact to Calendar

Each year, we build in some buffer into our calendar for unexpected delays and closures. With the power outage in November and the weather this week, our buffer is almost used up. If we have further unexpected closures or delays, we may need to fill back in the “weather make-up day” on Memorial Day weekend in May or look at additional options to make-up missed time. Again, we do not need to modify our remaining calendar as of now.

Prayer & Encouragement:

How do you stay centered during uncertainty? You never know what you will see when you open social media or look at the news. For many, emotions of fear, anxiety, anger, or sadness can be invoked by each post or story. The flow of information that invokes these emotions is not new, however, the constant access to it is a modern feature of our always connected culture. It is all too easy to get sucked into the endless feed of the newest update, the latest crisis, or the next reason to be divided.

We were not designed to live in a constant state of mental stimulation. The Bible teaches several practices that will help us return to our God-given design:

  • Remain in Christ – Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5. We are designed to be fruitful, not out of our own strength or abilities but because through the nourishment of being connected to Jesus.
  • Seek Solitude - During a busy season of ministry, Jesus found a quiet place. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” Mark 1:35. When are you intentionally in a quiet place, without distraction, where you can seek and hear from God? For me, it is 5am before everyone in my house wakes up. I read two chapters in the Bible BEFORE I turn on my cellphone.
  • Trust God to Provide – Jesus promised that as we seek God and His righteousness, God would provide our needs (Matthew 6:25-34). Sometimes we focus so much on our own self-reliance that we forget God is the true source of our provision.
  • Find Rest in Jesus – Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls,” Matthew 11:28-29. We can find rest, not through binge watching Netflix or an extra nap, instead, true soul level rest comes through Jesus.
  • Trade Anxiety for Peace – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:6-7. God can handle your questions and emotions. Give Him your anxiety and He will trade it for an amazing peace that will protect your thoughts and emotions.

My prayer for you comes from the famous Serenity Prayer, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.” So many things are out of our control. However, we can find firm footing for our soul in the promises and practices of Christ. I pray that God would give you peace in the middle of uncertainty today!

Have a great weekend!

RCS Families,

Last week was Spiritual Emphasis Week at RCS. This was a focused time where we had daily chapels to focus our entire student body on Christ as we began 2025. On Thursday, Rainier Christian students joined us for special chapels. It was incredible to see all campuses together worshiping Jesus in unity. Hearing the chorus of student’s worshiping God together was inspiring and encouraging. God is moving amongst our students!

Prayer & Encouragement:

Our mission as a school and as a Christ-follower comes directly from Jesus. Before He ascended to Heaven, Jesus gave a directive to His followers that we now call the “Great Commission.” Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20).

Our commitment is to disciple each student at RCS to become like Christ. We call this the Profile of a Student. When a student’s time is done at RCS, we want them to have a fully devoted relationship with Jesus, to have a well-developed Biblical Worldview, and to demonstrate three qualities: Godly Wisdom, Christ-like Character, and express God’s Love to One Another. This becomes our road map for character development at our school. Our programs and activities guide and develop students toward these expected student outcomes.

One aspect of Christ’s charge that is not always emphasized is His last line. Jesus promises He will be with us. His promise echoes the name the Prophet Isaiah gave for the coming Messiah, Immanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23-23). With His presence comes confidence, protection, comfort, and guidance. We can cast all our anxiety and cares on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). We can gain nourishment and strength by remaining connected with Jesus (John 15:4). His peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:6-8).

Jesus, thank you for entrusting us with your mission and being with us. I pray you would give peace and strength to each student, staff, and parent at RCS. Continue to guide us, protect us, and help us live more like you.

Have a great weekend!

We will have a Christmas themed Spirit Day on Friday, December 20th. Students are encouraged to wear their favorite red, green, and Christmas attire. Also, we will dismiss at 11:30am on Friday, December 15th as we start Christmas Break.

My Prayer and Encouragement

Every December, a passage from the book of Isaiah is an encouragement and anchor point for me. In this passage, the prophet Isaiah describes Jesus as the coming Messiah with four powerful characteristics. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…And he will be called Wonderful CounselorMighty GodEverlasting FatherPrince of Peace” Isaiah 9:6. These four characteristics anchor me during the busyness and chaos of the Christmas season. God is our Wonderful Counselor. We serve a God who wants to hear from us. We can share our celebrations and our cares. He provides perfect counsel that is full of wonder. God is our Mighty God. We serve a God that is more powerful than anything we are or may face. He desires to meet our needs and always be our source of strength (John 15:7). God is our Everlasting Father. Human time does not constrain our God. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8). His infinite context should provide us comfort and perfect context. God is the Prince of Peace. God’s domain is peace. Peace is His territory to rule and to provide. When we need peace, He is faithful to provide it to us (Philippians 4:7).

My prayer for you is that these four characteristics will encourage and anchor you during this Christmas season. I pray that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, would guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

RCS Families,

Last week our 7th & 8th grade students went on their annual Retreat and God moved in a mighty way! 25 students committed their life to Jesus for the first time and 15 other students felt God call them to consider a vocation in full-time ministry! At RCS, we want to develop students who are rooted in Christ and equipped to change the world. Thank you for your partnership! It is so encouraging to see God at work in our students.

Here are a couple of things to know this week:

Move-A-Thon & Color Run Results

Together, we raised $179,262 through our Move-a-Thon & Color Run! Thank you for your generosity for sharing the opportunity to support RCS with your family and friends. Yesterday, we celebrated the results by turning me into an ice cream sundae. Check out our social media for pictures of the cold and sticky mess. Thank you for helping us fund an improved campus alert system, security enhancements, and our RCS Cares fund!

Harvest Days Success

Harvest Day was so much fun yesterday and today. Our students enjoyed our corn maze, pumpkin launchers, inflatables, farm animals, and picking out their own pumpkin. This year we expanded it to two days to provide space for Sonshine Learning Center and Rainier Christian students to participate in the fun. Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers and staff who set up and facilitated this event.

Picture Re-Take Day | Monday, Oct 28th

If your student missed picture day or if their picture was a disaster, you are in luck. Our picture re-take day is coming up soon on October 28th. If you are replacing existing pictures, students just need to bring their photo packet back on retake day and hand it to the photographers. If your student missed the first picture day, CLICK HERE to preorder retake pictures online.

Veterans Day Chapel | Thursday, November 7th

We will have two special Veterans Day Chapels on Thursday, November 7th. We want to honor all Veterans in the RCS Community. There are two ways you can help us do this: 1) invite them to join us on November 7th (4th – 8th grade: 8:45am; KP-3rd grade: 10:30am with a special reception between chapels from 9:30-10:30am), 2) send us their information to include in a slide show. We will show this in every classroom and during the reception. If you have turned in a Veterans picture and bio information before, no need to do this again, we have a slide already made for you. However, if you are new to RCS or have not submitted a Veterans photo before, please fill out the form HERE. We will also live stream this chapel: rcs.online.church. Thank you for helping us honor those who currently serve or formerly served in the armed forces.

No School | Friday, Nov 8th & Monday, Nov 11th | Teacher In-service Day & Veterans Day Holiday

On Friday, November 8th, RCS is closed for Teacher Professional Development. RCS, BASC and SLC will be closed on Monday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

SAVE THE DATE! RCS Movie Night | Friday, November 15th

In three weeks, we will have an RCS Movie Night. We invite all RCS families to join us at 6pm on November 15th to watch Ratatouille in the North Auditorium. There will be a concession stand that will sell pizza, candy, and popcorn.

My Encouragement and Prayer:

This week a passage in Psalms jumped of the page of my Bible. In it, David beautifully writes about God’s role in his life while facing adversity and uncertainty. Everywhere we turn, we are inundated with information and situations that can shake our faith and confidence. What is your source of peace? How do you find rest? David declares God should be our answer. In Psalm 62, David says, “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Yes, my soul finds rest in God; my hope comes from him” (Psalm 62:1-2,5). When I feel shaken, I can be reminded that God is my rock. When I feel anxiety, I can be reminded that God is my source of rest and hope.

Our faith in Christ does not mean life will be easy. In fact, Jesus promised we will experience trouble. Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). We can have peace because Jesus is greater than our circumstances.

My prayer during this season is for peace. I echo the words of The Apostle Paul, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). God, let your peace guard our hearts and minds during this election season. Let your peace strengthen those facing financial uncertainty or health challenges. Let your peace be evident in and through each of us regardless of our circumstances.

Thank you for trusting RCS with your children. It is an honor to partner with you.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

Things to Know this Week (Oct. 4th)

RCS Families,

On September 25th, over 200 students, parents, and staff joined together at the flagpole to pray as part of the national “See You at the Pole” day. I was moved by the heartfelt prayers given by each person who prayed. Collectively we prayed for students, staff, health, protection, unity, peace, elected officials, our country, and so much more. God hears our prayers. God answers our prayers. I continually ask God for His continued protection, provision, and direction for our school. Over the past 45 years, God has continually demonstrated His faithfulness to RCS as we have remained faithful to His call. Will you join me in praying for our school every day?

Here are a couple of things to know this week:

Move-A-Thon (KP-4th Grade) | Color Run (5th – 8th Grade)

Our fall fundraiser kicked off on Monday and we have already raised over $72,000! Thank you for helping your student share their story about Renton Christian. This year we are raising money to improve our campus-wide communication system and other security system improvements. We need to integrate our security radios with a new network of ceiling speakers to improve emergency alert efficiency. This new system will improve our ability to communicate with classrooms for emergency and non-emergency purposes (i.e. announcements). Also, beginning this year, 10% of everything raised in our two major fundraisers will fund RCS Cares. This fund enables us to care for RCS families during times of crisis or need (i.e. flowers in hospital, etc.) If your student hasn’t jumped in yet, CLICK HERE to register your student and get their custom video.

Gym Upgrade Project Beginning

During our auction in May, we funded some upgrades to our gym. This project began this week! We are replacing the ripped and stained carpet walls and installing padded wall panels to improve safety for basketball & volleyball games. The new carpet started going up this week! Thank you to everyone who helped contribute to support our PE and athletic programs.

Goal Setting Conferences | October 17th & 18th

Each October we ask every parent to meet with their student’s teacher. These Parent-Teacher Goal Setting conferences are a collaborative conversation about your child’s academic and spiritual growth. We intentionally schedule these conferences early in the school year to identify areas of strength and provide adequate time to address opportunities for growth.

  • Kprep-4th Grade: CLICK HERE to book a 20-minute conference with your student’s homeroom teacher.
  • 5th – 8th Grade: CLICK HERE to book a 10-minute conference with the teachers/subjects you feel are necessary.

Harvest Days | October 24th & 25th

Our 5th Annual Harvest Day is coming in three weeks! Instead of taking our students to an offsite pumpkin patch, we create one on our field! Every student will enjoy a fun time with our corn maze, pumpkin launchers, inflatables, farm animals, and they will bring home their own pumpkin. This year we are expanding this to two days. On Thursday, October 24th, Sonshine Learning Center & Rainier Christian (K-6th) students will enjoy Harvest Day. On Friday, October 25th, Renton Christian students will enjoy Harvest Day. We need your help! We are looking for several parents to help us facilitate this fun for both days. CLICK HERE to find ways to help us with Harvest Day serving or bringing a bag of candy.

RCS Mariners Night Reflections

Last Friday was our annual RCS Mariners Night. Over 750 people from Renton Christian and Rainier Christian came together to cheer on the Mariners and enjoy the fireworks show. Mr. McMillan and three RCS students represented our schools by throwing out a first pitch. CLICK HERE to see the video of the pitch from the stadium’s big screen. Thank you to everyone who came!

My Encouragement and Prayer:

During my morning devotions, I have been reading through the book of Psalms. I am always encouraged by God’s promises described throughout this book. When I see a promise I write it down. Not only is this list a great reminder of God’s promises for my life, but it also provides incredible content for my prayers. When I don’t know how to pray, I pray Scripture. I thank God for specific promises. I ask Him to continually show these promises in my life. Here are some examples from the beginning of Psalms:

  • I am blessed when I follow God’s plan (Psalm 1:1-2)
  • My life will naturally produce good fruit when I follow God (Psalm 1:3)
  • God watches over me (Psalm 1:6)
  • God is my shield (Psalm 3:3)
  • God is my encouragement and the lifter of my head (Psalm 3:3)
  • When I call out to the Lord, He answers me (Psalm 3:4)
  • God sustains me (Psalm 3:5)

Here is how I use scripture like these in my prayers, “God, thank you for your blessings. Thank you for your direction. You enable me to produce good fruit. Thank you for watching over me and protecting me. You are my shield from the attacks of the enemy. Continue to protect my family and RCS. Thank you for hearing my prayers and sustaining me. You are a good God and worthy of praise.” My encouragement to you is to use the Bible to focus and expand your prayer life. Our prayers move the heart of God. Let’s be a people of prayer!

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

High School Campus Update

RCS Families,

This is an exciting week for RCS! We just sent our initial payment to purchase the land for our future high school campus! This payment is an important step for our dream of seeing 100 students graduate every year rooted in Christ and equipped to change the world.

Feasibility Complete

For the past nine months, our property development team conducted feasibility studies and developed initial site design. We have worked with local land experts, our architect, civil engineer, wetland biologist, arborist, traffic engineer, and the City of Covington. Although this property has unique development considerations, our team and consultants believe we can build a beautiful high school campus. Therefore, we are excited to end our feasibility period and will continue the entitlement and design phase of the property development.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who has already made a pledge or a gift to acquire this property and develop the high school campus. We are grateful for your continued partnership!

CLICK HERE for more information about the high school property.

Enjoy the rest of your summer break!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

Grandparents Day Success

Last Friday over 600 grandparents and students created priceless memories. They enjoyed a taste of our weekly chapel, an interactive time in the classroom, and a Chick-fil-A lunch. We love our RCS grandparents and love seeing our students value their time together.

Encouragement and Prayer:

Today’s culture thrives on division. When something happens, we are thrust into different camps, requiring us to declare which side we are on. Often, this process occurs along ideological or political lines. Our friends and loved ones can move from family to foe in an instant. This is not God’s plan for us.

Instead of seeing people as potential enemies, the love of Christ should bond us together. The Apostle Paul addresses our relationships with one another in his letter to the church in Rome. Take a moment to read the following passage to see the stark contrast with how today’s culture would have us act:

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:9-21.

Our starting point should be love. Love should bind us together, not divide us. Love should focus our attention on the needs of others, not toward self. Love should guide us toward harmony and peace, not strife and division. As followers of Christ, let’s reflect the love described by the Apostle Paul and not the divisiveness of today’s culture.

God, bind us together in unity, despite our differences. Help us to enter each conversation with the foundation of Your love. Help us to find common ground and unite around Your redemptive mission. We pray for our divided culture and country. Bring healing and peace. Give us Your mercy and grace today. Amen.

Have a great week!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

God is at work at Renton Christian! This week at chapel, 32 students publicly declared their faith in Jesus Christ though water baptism. Spiritual formation is a foundational element of RCS. When a student begins or develops their faith in Christ, we celebrate! So far this school year, over 50 students decided to make Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior! When this decision happens, we encourage students to connect with a pastor at their church to make that decision public. Many churches use water baptism to outwardly declare this inward transformation. Each year, we provide an opportunity for RCS students to be baptized at one of our chapels. It was so moving to see 32 students publicly profess their faith in front of their peers at chapel this week! Please join me in praying for each of these students. Pray that the commitment they made will carry them to adulthood and ultimately to eternity.

STEM Day Recap

Wednesday was STEM Day at RCS! Steamboat Studios spent the day with us. Each RCS student learned about different forms of forces and magnetism. They saw science demonstrations in an assembly and then performed hands-on experiments in the classroom with personalized science kits. It was a great day of inspiration and instilling scientific curiosity in each student.

Prayer & Encouragement:

This year I am reading through the Bible from the beginning. Right now, I am reading through the book of Numbers. I love this book, not just because I am a numbers guy, but also because it demonstrates God’s intentionality and provision for His people. The book of Numbers records the journey of Moses and the Israelite people through the Desert of Sinai after they left Egypt and on their way to the promised land. This journey was full of frustration, complaints, and hardships. However, it was also full of God’s provision, presence, and protection. The humanity of the people of God was on full display. God’s presence was clear through a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. God’s provision was miraculous by providing manna each morning and water from rocks. God’s protection from their surrounding enemies was powerful. Despite all of this, several times, the Israelites, complained to Moses for bringing them out of the slavery of Egypt. Why? I believe they allowed the hardships of the moment to suppress the promise of their future. The unknowns of the Promised Land and the challenges of the journey created more discomfort than the known reality of their past. God has a purpose and a call for each of us to fulfill His mission going forward. This applies to us individually and together as a school. God gave us a dream to see 100 students graduate each year, rooted in Christ, and equipped to change the world. Let’s remain focused on where God is calling us rather than where we were or any momentary hardships. We serve a faithful God. My prayer is that God’s presence, provision, and protection will remain on each person at Renton Christian. Please join me in prayer for God's continued clarity, wisdom, and direction.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

Leak Update

God’s protection and provision continues to be evident in the 10 days since the broken fire sprinkler flooded our server room and computer lab. All affected areas have been fully and professionally dried out. All damaged sheetrock and flooring have been removed. All damaged equipment has been inventoried and removed. All critical systems have been restored with a temporary solution while the rooms are reconstructed. Replacement equipment and supplies have been reordered. We are working with the insurance company to approve the restoration scope. If everything continues to go well, we hope to have the bulk of the construction take place during mid-winter break and have everything restored (or near completion) when we return on February 26th.

Encouragement and Prayer:

This month I have been reading Genesis and Exodus. It is amazing to see God’s intentionality through this narrative as He protected, provided, and redeemed His people. God’s presence guided the Israelites through the desert with a cloud by day and a pilar of fire by night. Despite God’s providence and presence, the Israelites succumbed to fear, selfishness, and sinful behavior. Regardless, God desired reconciliation and provided continuous opportunities for the Israelites to turn their hearts back to Him. Today, we are susceptible to pressures, temptations, and sinful tendencies that can separate us from God. We need to make daily decisions to grow our faith and draw closer to Him. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we can be fully reconciled to God. Although we can accept the gift of salvation in a moment, our spiritual development is a continual process.

I pray that God would draw you close to Him. I pray that you will commit again to live for God aligned with His nature and will. I pray that God will continue to protect and provide for your family and for Renton Christian.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

Thank you for your patience this week with the weather and water leak impacts. I am thankful for God’s protection and provision regarding the leak caused by a broken fire sprinkler head. The leak occurred without students on campus but while staff were on campus. No one was hurt and things can be replaced. The timing of the leak allowed our team to respond immediately and limit the impact. The damage to the server room and computer lab was extensive, however, our team and vendors restored critical systems within 36 hours to enable us to open with only one lost day! The mitigation & restoration company is still drying everything out, inventorying all damaged equipment, and will begin restoring spaces next week. We are actively working to replace and restore impacted areas as soon as possible and are working with our insurance company to minimize the financial impact. We expect the exterior door systems and interior flow to be restored early next week. Please pray that the restoration and insurance claim process continue to go efficiently and smoothly. During times like this, I am so proud of our incredible team! We rally, we are flexible, and we respond with a positive “we can make this happen” mentality.

RCS Families,

This week, the sense of God’s guidance and provision for Renton Christian was unmistakable. I reflected on the many things that God is orchestrating. The first reflection is about our teachers. The love and dedication of our teachers is amazing. I have received several emails from parents with specific appreciation for their student’s teacher and the way they served their family. Our teachers are the secret sauce of our school! If you have a story to celebrate, please email me. It is such an encouragement to me and our team. The second reflection is about our entire team. Our team is unified and aligned to accomplish our mission to disciple students through Christ-centered education. The third reflection is regarding unexpected opportunities. Winter Weather Communication Plan

Toward the end of next week there is a possibility of our first lowland snow of the season. We will monitor conditions as we get closer. Should there be the need to modify a school day or adjust afterschool activities, we will communicate through these methods:

  • FlashAlert.net – This is our first means of weather communication. FlashAlert is the primary means for schools and school districts in our region to alert local media of adjustments to normal school schedules or activities. You can sign up for email alerts or download the FlashAlert App and enable notifications on your phone.
  • Text & Email Message – Any weather-related modification will be sent via text and email to all parents.
  • Social Media – We will also post adjustments to our Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Security Project Update | Funded through 2023 Move-a-thon & Color Run

Over Christmas break we made progress on two security enhancements to our facility funded through our fall Move-a-thon & Color Run. We are committed to the safety of our students. Thank you for helping us fund the following enhancements.

  • Office Entrance – We are enhancing the physical security of our office entrance. We have added doors to secure classroom access. Once completed, during the school day, an individual will be remotely buzzed into the school office. After checking in, the office will remotely provide access to the necessary hallway.
  • Security Film – We are adding clear security film to the first–floor windows. This film holds shattered glass in place to prevent unauthorized entry. This film was already added to all doors at the end of last school year.

Encouragement and Prayer:

As we begin this year, I encourage you to self-assess your relationship with Christ. Do you feel full of hope & life or depleted & weak? There is a constant battle for our soul. Jesus came that we would have life and have it to the full. In contrast, the devil comes only to steal and kill and destroy (John 10:10). Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:9-10). He demonstrated His extravagant love in our worst state (Romans 5:8). Jesus is also our source of nourishment and strength. He described himself as the vine and we are the branches. He promised if we remain in Him, He will remain in us, and we will be fruitful (John 15:5).

If you feel depleted and week, have you fully surrendered your life to Christ and received His salvation? If not, I encourage you to begin this year with this important step. If you want to do this, I would love to have a personal conversation to start this new faith journey. If you have already done this but still feel depleted and weak, how connected are you to the vine? What intentional practices do you have to spend time with your heavenly Father? Whenever I feel depleted, I assess my faith practices and usually realize I have become sloppy with them. I encourage you to dial in your faith practices as we start this year. For me, I read two chapters in the Bible each morning at 5am in the same chair in our living room. If you want to be more connected with Jesus, I encourage you to pick a place, pick a plan, and pick a time. With these things in place, you intentionally create space to commune with your Creator.

My prayer is that we would start this year working on growing closer with Christ. I pray that we would be an example for our students and experience the full life that God designed for us.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

We are right in the middle of our Christmas season at Renton Christian. I love seeing the smiles and dance moves from students and parents as they walk in with Christmas music playing. Our hallways have exploded with Christmas decorations; they look incredible! Final practices and prep are being done for our Christmas concerts next week. This is such a great time of the year celebrating the birth of our Savior at RCS.

Here are a few of things to know this week:

Support our Financial Aid | RCS Legacy Fund

We need your help! 164 students currently receive financial assistance. We do not limit our financial aid budget. Due to this commitment, this year, our financial aid increased by over $150,000. Will you consider a gift to our Legacy Fund to enable our continued financial support with these students? We want to ensure they continue learning in a Christ-centered environment. Thank you for your generosity and investment into the lives of RCS students. CLICK HERE to give a one-time or reoccurring gift.

RCS Christmas Concerts | Thursday, Dec 14th

This is the season to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We will have three Christmas concerts this year. Our students have been preparing and practicing for this special concert and we cannot wait to see you there. Each concert will be in the Main Auditorium. Below are the three concert times. Each concert will also be live streamed at: https://rcs.online.church/.

  • Kprep-1st Grade: 8:45am
  • 2nd – 4th Grade: 10:00am
  • 5th – 8th Grade: 7:00pm

Save the Date! | Parent Enrichment Night | 7pm, January 16th

The Chaplin of the UW Huskies and Seattle Seahawks, Jonathan Rainey, will join us for our Parent Enrichment Night at 7pm on Tuesday, January 16th. He will speak on developing resilience in our students. Jonathan Rainey is a gifted communicator and will help us grow as parents! You do not want to miss this night!

Reenrollment for 2024 – 2025 School Year | New Deadline, January 31st

Reenrollment for next school year will open for current families on Tuesday, January 2nd. Current families will have until January 31st to reenroll before we begin placing new families. Several grades will have a waitlist based anticipated new family interest. We will send you an email on January 2nd with a link to reenroll current students and priority enrollment for younger siblings. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership with Renton Christian.

Spirit Day & Early Dismissal | Friday, December 15th

We will have a Christmas themed Spirit Day on Friday, December 15th. Students are encouraged to wear their favorite red, green, and Christmas attire. Also, we will dismiss at 11:30am on Friday, December 15th as we start Christmas Break.

Encouragement and Prayer:

The book of Isaiah records a prophecy of the coming Messiah saying, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel,” Isaiah 7:14. Immanuel means “God with us”. This simple but profound truth speaks to God’s desire for redemption, reconciliation, and relationship. The creator of the universe loved you and me so much that even in our worst condition, He sent Jesus to us in the form of a baby to be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins (Romans 5:8). We do not serve a distant God who is uninterested in our lives or condition. We serve a God who is present. A God who desires full reconciliation from the separation our sin created (Romans 3:23-24). He loved us enough to provide the solution through His one and only son. That through our belief in Jesus, we can be redeemed and experience eternal life (John 3:16). All of this began with the humble birth we celebrate each December. Jesus was born as Immanuel, God with us.

My prayer for you is that you will fully experience Immanuel “God with us” this Christmas. I pray God’s presence would protect and provide for your family. I pray His presence would bring peace and reconciliation.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

This week we hosted a team of seven school professionals as part of our ACSI reaccreditation process.  Their job this week was to conduct a 360-degree review of our school to determine areas of strength and opportunities for growth. They met with our school board, parents, staff, and students. They reviewed our practices for spiritual formation, academics, relationships, well-being of students & staff, operations & finances, etc. The process was very encouraging both in the reinforcement of our strengths and in identifying areas we should focus our energy on over the coming years. The good news is that the team is fully recommending our reaccreditation to the ACSI Accreditation Commission! We should receive their detailed report in February. This reaccreditation process and report will inform and strengthen our school’s strategic plan for the coming years. We will share more details when we receive their final report.

Here are a few of things to know this week:

Annual Legacy Fund

We need your help! Tuition alone is not sufficient to fully fund Renton Christian. This year, our financial aid increased by over $150,000. 164 students currently receive financial assistance this year. Your gift to our Legacy Fund will enable our continued financial support with these students and ensure they continue learning in a Christ-centered environment. Reenrollment for 2024 – 2025 School Year

Reenrollment for next school year will open for current families January 2nd. New families will be able to apply beginning January 23rd. We have already given tours to prospective new families. We anticipate strong interest in new families desiring to join RCS next fall. We will send you an email on January 2nd with a link to reenroll. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership with Renton Christian.

Encouragement and Prayer:

Every December, a passage from the book of Isaiah is an encouragement and anchor point for me. In this passage, the prophet Isaiah describes Jesus as the coming Messiah with four powerful characteristics. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of PeaceIsaiah 9:6.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

I began last week in Phoenix at a conference with over 400 Christian school leaders from across America. Mrs. Hopp, Mrs. Barnes and I went down a day early to tour three incredible Christian schools in the Phoenix area to inspire and inform our plans for the RCS High School. We learned a lot and were inspired by specific ideas and opportunities. I love learning from other schools. With that said, I am humbled by what God is doing through Renton Christian. We are experiencing something special. I would not trade our teachers or staff for those at other schools. We have an incredible partnership with parents. I would not trade our parents for those at other schools. I am so excited about the future of RCS and the doors God continues to open for us. Thank you for your encouragement and partnership to make RCS the school God desires it to be!

Here are a few of things to know this week:

RCS Cares | OCC and Food Drive Results

Thank you for partnering with us to instill a spirit of serving in our students! Over the past two weeks we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our families. Here is what we were able to do together:

  • Operation Christmas Child – we received 492 boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We will help 492 children around the world receive a Christmas gift and the message of Jesus on Christmas this year!
  • Food Drive – We received 4,485 food items for the Renton Salvation Army Food Bank. This food was picked up today and will provide much needed shelf-stable food for families in need during this Thanksgiving and Christmas season. We loaded up all the food this morning in a truck from the food bank. The truck was packed! The food bank was overwhelmed with the generosity of our families. Thank you for helping us serve our neighbors across the street and around the world!

First Annual RCS Christmas Tree Lighting Event | Mon, Nov 27th at 6:30pm

To start the Christmas season, RCS invites you to join us for a time of Christmas carols, Christmas cocoa and our first ever Christmas Tree Lighting. We are transforming an evergreen tree near the entrance into our Christmas tree! We can’t wait to see you on Monday, November 27th at 6:30pm for this 30–45-minute Christmas experience!

ACSI Accreditation Visit | Nov 26-29

To ensure RCS operates with best practices, we are accredited with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Every 6 years, our school goes through a reaccreditation process involving an exhaustive self-study and a visit from a team of current school administrators to observe our school and confirm the findings of our internal study. Our team completed a self-study toward the end of last school year. The visiting ACSI team will be onsite on November 26th – 29th. This team will highlight areas of strength and collaboratively identify opportunities to strengthen our school. We are looking forward to this visit to help us strengthen our practices and become a better school. This reaccreditation process will inform and strengthen our school’s strategic plan for the coming years.

No School | November 20 – 24 | Teacher Professional Development and Thanksgiving Break

There will be no classes next week, November 20 – 24 for our Teacher Professional Development and Thanksgiving break. We pray for safe travel for those heading out of the area and for all to have an enjoyable time with family and friends. BASC and SLC will be open until 4pm on November 22nd and both will be closed November 23rd and 24th.

Encouragement and Prayer:

Next week is Thanksgiving. This is a natural opportunity for us to reflect on the people and provision we enjoy every day. However, thanksgiving is a Christian virtue that each of us need to exercise throughout the year. Here are a few versus that help illustrate the breadth of this virtue:

  1. Worship – We should come before God “with thanksgiving” (Psalm 95:2, Psalm 100:4) and our praise should be infused with thanksgiving (Psalm 69:30).
  2. Salvation – Thanksgiving is a natural outflow of the grace we receive through salvation in Christ (2 Corinthians 4:15).
  3. Prayer – Our posture when making requests from God should include thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6)
  4. Faith in Christ – thankfulness illustrates part of a fully devoted relationship with Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:6-7)
  5. Response to God’s Love – we should express thankfulness to God for His goodness and enduring love (1 Chronicles 16:34, Psalm 106:1)
  6. Provisions – Jesus frequently expressed thanks for God-given provisions (Luke 9:16, Luke 22:19).
  7. All Circumstances – The Apostle Paul instructed us to “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
  8. People – The Apostle Paul modeled this thankfulness for people by expressing his thanks to the people to who he wrote (Philippians 1:3-6).

Thanksgiving properly postures us before God and toward the people around us. Thanksgiving forces us to look outward rather than inward. Thanksgiving prompts us to pause and ponder. Thanksgiving is an antidote to pride, and it fosters humility. Every breath, every moment, every day is a gift from God. Let’s live in a constant posture of thankfulness.

I am thankful for you and your partnership. I am thankful for the passionate and committed teachers and team at RCS. I am thankful for each student. I pray God bless you with moments of rest over Thanksgiving Break. I pray He would bring to mind the endless reasons to be thankful and help each of us exhibit thankfulness in every circumstance.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

God’s hand of blessing is on Renton Christian. I see it in the stories of student’s committing their lives to Christ. I see it in the smiles on every student. I see it in the doors God is opening for RCS to expand our capacity. I see it through encouraging thoughts and emails from parents. Let’s not take for granted God provision, protection, and guidance. Thank you for partnering with us to develop the lives of every student in our care. I appreciate your trust, your prayers, and your encouragement.

Here are a few of things to know this week:

RCS Cares | November 6th – 17th

Our prayer is that every student at RCS learns to be missionally minded, thinking beyond themselves. We want to cultivate compassionate students whose heart breaks for the things that break the heart of God. In November, we have two opportunities for the RCS community to serve:

  • Food Drive: We will be receiving non-perishable food for the Renton Salvation Army Food Bank. There will be boxes outside each classroom to receive food beginning Monday, November 6th
  • Operation Christmas Child: We want to provide a Christmas gift to 500 children in need across the world. Special Operation Christmas Child boxes will be available in each class beginning Monday, November 6th
  • Additional details for both opportunities was sent by Mrs. Turner in an email on Monday (Oct 30th).

RCS Fall Book Fair | Next Week: Nov 6th – 9th | 8am – 5pm

Next week is our fall book fair with I:55. This Christ-centered company provides family friendly books that are prescreened to ensure they align with RCS values. CLICK HERE to browse the types of incredible books that may be available next week. Free shipping is available on any online order over $50 with the code: “FREE50WA007”. Stop by the RCS Library anytime between 8am to 5pm to pick up some great books. Each class will also have an opportunity to visit the book fair during the school day next week. The book fair will accept cash or cards.

No School | Friday, Nov 10 | Veterans Day Observed

RCS, BASC and SLC will be closed on Friday, November 10 in observance of Veterans Day. We appreciate the service and sacrifice of veterans who protected the freedoms we enjoy each day.

RCS Spirit Day | Apple Cup Attire | November 17

Support your favorite team in the Apple Cup on November 18th for spirit day! Students can wear University of Washington or Washington State University gear for our Apple Cup themed spirit day. Students not participating in spirit day should wear standard RCS uniform attire.

Encouragement and Prayer:

How do you stay centered in the midst of uncertainty? You never know what you will see when you open social media or look at the news. For many, emotions of fear, anxiety, anger, or sadness can be invoked by each post or story. The flow of information that invokes these emotions is not new, however, the constant access to it is a modern feature of our always connected culture. It is all too easy to get sucked into the endless feed of the newest update, the latest crisis, or the next reason to be divided.

We were not designed to live in a constant state of mental stimulation. The Bible teaches several practices that will help us return to our God-given design:

  1. Remain in Christ – Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5. We are designed to be fruitful, not out of our own strength or abilities but because through the nourishment of being connected to Jesus.
  2. Seek Solitude - During a busy season of ministry, Jesus found a quite place.
  3. Trust God to Provide – Jesus promised that as we seek God and His righteousness, God would provide our needs (Matthew 6:25-34). Sometimes we focus so much on our own self-reliance that we forget God is the true source of our provision.
  4. Find Rest in Jesus – Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls,” Matthew 11:28-29. We can find rest, not through binge watching Netflix or an extra nap, instead, true soul level rest comes through Jesus.
  5. Trade Anxiety for Peace – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:6-7. God can handle your questions and emotions. Give him your anxiety and He will trade it for an amazing peace the will protect your thoughts and emotions.

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

Things to Know this Week (Oct 27)

RCS Families,

I am humbled by what God is doing in and through Renton Christian this year! Last week 150 of our 7th & 8th grade students, staff, and parents spent three days at Black Diamond Camp for their fall retreat. God moved powerfully in the hearts of our students. 29 students made Jesus their Lord and Savior! Another 13 students felt called to consider full-time ministry as their future career! These unhurried moments at the altar will be foundational in their spiritual formation. We pray the seed planted and watered in their lives will come to fruition and produce amazing fruit for the Mission of God.

Here are a couple of things to know this week:

Move-A-Thon & Color Run Update (Our new bus arrived today!)

Thank you for all your help and partnership with our fall fundraiser! Together, we raised over $170,000! This year we raised money for a second new school bus and some campus security projects. I’m excited to announce our second new school bus arrived today! This will help eliminate our need to rent school buses for most field trips and prepare us for transportation between campuses when we add our future high school location. The first campus security project will strengthen and improve the security at our school office entrance. This improvement should be complete during Christmas break or mid-winter break depending on supply availability.

Veterans Day Chapel | Thursday, November 2

Next week, we will have our annual Veterans Day Chapels. Every year we invite all veterans of RCS students to join us. We will honor and celebrate their meaningful service and sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. As always, all parents are welcome to come. Please take note of the chapel times for your student’s chapel: 4th – 8th grade @ 8:45am, Kprep – 3rd grade @ 10:30am. There will be a reception for all veterans at 9:30am between these two chapels. If you or a family member is unable to join us in person, we will live stream both chapels at: https://rcs.online.church/.

  • Operation Christmas Child: We want to provide a Christmas gift to 500 children in need across the world.

Details for both opportunities will be sent early next week. Thank you for helping us train a generation of students to tangibly express the love of Christ.

RCS High School Update

We continue to conduct feasibility, design, and entitlement work on the RCS High School property. We are working diligently toward a pre-application meeting with the City of Covington in January or February 2024. This week an arborist is documenting and assessing each of the over 1,500 trees on the property to help us confirm the buildable area and inform the site design. We are making steady and diligent progress! CLICK HERE to learn more about the RCS High School.

November Serving Opportunities @ RCS

This year we launched our new serving platform for Renton Christian School. Thank you for partnering with us! We are still looking for several parents to serve in November for our Book Fair and Veterans Day Chapel, and upcoming Christmas concerts in December. Please look at our upcoming serving needs at: www.rentonchristian.org/serve.

Please follow us on Instagram to see stories and posts that will inform, inspire, and give you a glimpse into your student’s day at RCS. You can also join us on Facebook as well.

Encouragement and Prayer:

As the leaves fall and temperature drops a sign of a new season is upon us. Each season has different rhythms, characteristics, and traditions. If you are like me, there are some seasons you prefer over others. There are some seasons you look forward to and others you endure. Like the seasons of nature, we experience different seasons as an individual, family, and organization. Some seasons are filled with joy and celebration, others with anxiety, loss, and pain. Regardless of how you would describe the season you are currently in, here are a few things to consider:

I pray that regardless the season you find yourself in you would find comfort and strength in Christ. I pray “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace” Numbers 6:24-26.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

THINGS TO KNOW THIS WEEK

RCS Families,

Last week I was in Washington, D.C. with 200 school administrators from all over the country at a Legal Policy and Advocacy conference through ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). The purpose of this conference was to educate and empower school administrators to share the story of the good work our schools are doing in our communities with elected officials and to advocate for issues that support Christian education. God is opening doors across the country to strengthen Christ-centered educational opportunities. As a private school we are not reliant on government to accomplish our mission, however, government can limit or complicate our endeavors. We want to build relationships and pray for our elected officials to strengthen and not limit what God is doing through our schools. People and policies across the political spectrum can partner together to be used by God to disciple students. We are committed to that end.

Here are a couple of things to know this week:

Signed PSA for RCS High School Property!

Today we received the signed Purchase & Sale Agreement for the RCS High School! This means we have secured the rights to the property for us to continue conducting feasibility activities. Last week we had a conceptional design meeting with our Architectural firm. We have a long road to go to develop our secondary campus, but it starts with securing the land. This is a huge step today! CLICK HERE to learn more about the RCS High School.

Spiritual Emphasis Week | God moved!

This week was Spiritual Emphasis Week where we had daily chapels to focus our students on their spiritual development. God inspired and captured the hearts of our students this week! Over 50 students across grades committed their life to Jesus or rededicated their faith in Him! This is the core of what we are about. We want each student at RCS to have a fully devoted relationship with Jesus Christ.

Move-A-Thon (KP-4th Grade) | Color Run (5th – 8th Grade)

Our fall fundraiser kicked off on Monday and we have already raised over $75,000! Thank you for helping your student share the story about Renton Christian. This year we are raising money for a second new school bus and to strengthen our school security. The second bus will replace our oldest bus. This will eliminate our need to rent school buses for most field trips and prepare us for transportation between campuses when we add our future high school location. If your student hasn’t jumped in yet, CLICK HERE to register your student and get their custom video.

New! Serve @ RCS Website

This month we launched our new serving platform for Renton Christian School. We have already seen almost 300 serving opportunities filled! I love how involved our parents are in the life of Renton Christian. Involved parents lead to successful students. We are still looking for several parents to serve in October for our Move-a-Thon and Fall Festival events. Please look at our October serving needs at: www.rentonchristian.org/serve.

Goal Setting Parent/Teacher Conferences | October 19th & 20th

Now is the time to schedule your Parent/Teacher Goal Setting conferences. We are excited to launch our conferences in a new format. In the past we have held conferences late in November. We are scheduling conferences in October this year to create a pathway for all students to meet their goals earlier on.  Teachers will be discussing goals that are specific to your child for the school year. Our value is to partner with you so your child will grow academically and spiritually throughout this school year. Parent/Teacher conferences are a time to reflect on the progress your child has been making and talk with the teacher about any questions you have. Schedule your conference time on the following links: Kprep-4th grade students: CLICK HERE. 5th – 8th grade students: CLICK HERE.

Follow RCS on Instagram

The best way to stay up-to-date with Renton Christian is on Instagram @rentonchristian. Please follow us on Instagram to see stories and posts that will inform, inspire, and give you a glimpse into your student’s day at RCS. You can also join us on Facebook as well.

Encouragement and Prayer:

Normally, I use this portion of my weekly email to encourage you and provide a prayer for you. This week I want to ask you to pray for me and our team. Following my trip to Washington D.C., I developed some symptoms that turned out to be related to a bleeding ulcer. I spent three days in the hospital determining the cause and treatment. The good news is that the small ulcer they found is no longer bleeding and I am feeling much better each day. I want to thank our incredible team who carried the load while I was out of the office. This process has underscored my reliance on Christ for my strength and highlighted the value of such a great team at RCS. My request is that you continually keep myself and our team in your prayers. God is and will do great things through RCS and your prayers are critical. Prayer for physical and mental health. Pray for protection. Pray for wisdom and guidance. We serve a faithful God. Thank you for your partnership and support!

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

Mexico Missions Meeting 6th-8th Grade Families

We want each student to develop an outward focused perspective. On our Profile of a Student framework, we call this being missionally minded. One way we do this is through middle school missions trips. This year we are combining two trips into one large trip as we partner with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) to build three homes for families in Mexico (Baja California) who have inadequate housing. The trip is open to all 6th – 8th grade students and will take place during Easter Break, April 1-5, 2024. RCS Families,

Sept. 15th, 2023

What an incredible first two weeks of our school year! I talked with two different parents yesterday who said they loved how their kids came home happy every day and how excited each morning they were to come to school. It is so encouraging seeing so many smiling faces coming into school every day. Thank you for trusting us with your precious children. I can’t wait to see what God continues to do in the life of each student this year.

Here are a couple of things to know this week:

New! Serve @ RCS Website

Yesterday we launched our new serving platform for Renton Christian School. We have already seen 184 serving opportunities filled! I love how involved our parents are in the life of Renton Christian. Involved parents lead to successful students. There are many serving opportunities still available for you to make a difference. Find a way to get involved today at www.rentonchristian.org/serve.

Pray for RCS High School Property

This Sunday, September 17, the organization who owns the land we are trying to purchase for the RCS High School is voting on the Purchase and Sale Agreement. Their board has approved the PSA terms, this Sunday’s vote is with their entire membership. Please pray that they vote to approve the sale! Our team is excited to continue the property feasibility process and begin the entitlement and architectural design process. CLICK HERE to learn more about the RCS High School.

Mexico Missions Trip for 6th – 8th grade | Last Info Meeting | September 18th

We want each student to develop an outward focused perspective. On our Profile of a Student framework, we call this being missionally minded. One way we do this is through middle school missions trips. This year we are combining two trips into one large trip as we partner with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) to build three homes for families in Mexico (Baja California) who have inadequate housing. The trip is open to all 6th – 8th grade students and will take place during Easter Break, April 1-5, 2024. Our last informational meeting is this Monday, September 18th at 4pm in the small chapel across from the school office. CLICK HERE to sign-up for the trip. Deadline to sign up is September 22, 2023.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,

RCS Families,

August 22nd, 2023

School is almost here! If your family is like mine there is a tension this time of year. We don’t want summer to end but we are craving the structure and rhythm of the school year to be back! Our team is excited to see you in two weeks. Our teachers will all be back onsite next week for training and preparing their classrooms. Our facility is looking great. We can’t wait to see what God does in the lives of each student this year! We have been praying for each of you and are expecting another fruitful year rooted in Christ.

Here are a couple of things to know:

Meet Your Teacher Day | Tuesday, September 5th | 10am – Noon

Parents and students are encouraged to come meet their teachers any time between 10:00am and 12:00pm on 9/5. This is an opportunity to acclimate to the classroom, building, teachers, and meet new friends. Students will be able to deliver school supplies to their classrooms at that same time. This is one of the best ways to be ready for the first day of school. Stop by the covered playground for a hot dog and ice cream as well as pick up RCS gear from the RCS pop-up shop!

Back to School Details:

We want you to be prepared for the new school year! You should have received an email from our Principal, Lisa Hopp on August 11th that is full of information about the following. Click the links below or refer to Mrs. Hopp’s email for more information.

 Parking Lot Flow

We work hard every year to make our drop-off and pick-up process as safe and efficient as possible. Please take a moment to review this document that describes the pick-up and drop-off plan. Please remember the following:

  • Have Patience – Please plan enough time for morning drop-off. This is especially important during the first week or two of school.
  • Park & Walk In – We want to encourage as many parents as possible to park and drop-off in person. This will limit the vehicle lines and build community with other families.
  • Drive slowly – please drive slowly through the parking lot. Remember, kids may pop out of a car without much notice.
  • Use Designated Walkways – As much as possible, use the center sidewalk or conned off walkway when heading toward the buildings.
  • Use Designated Crosswalks – Please only cross drive lanes using designated crosswalks.
  • Walk with Students – Younger children should only walk through the parking lot accompanied by an adult.
  • Exit Curbside – Please have students exit your vehicle along a curb. This is the passenger side for NL Kid’s Loop (1st – 3rd grade) and drivers’ side for Fast Track Loop (4th – 8th grade).
  • Please Don’t Drop-off in Parking Lanes – Please only use the parking stall lanes (green path on map) to park and walk in. Please use the blue path for curbside drop-off.
  • Please Don’t Block Intersections – Please be courteous to our neighbors and leave intersections unblocked. This includes the intersection near the parking lot entrance as well as the intersection near Starbucks.

BASC (Before & After School Care) Registration

Please take a moment to register for our Before & After School Care program. Our new BASC Director, Brianna Prado, led our BASC Summer Camp program well and she and her team are excited to serve your family during this school year. Our BASC program provides care and activities for students from 6:30am to 6:00pm as well as full-day care for non-holiday weekdays when school is not in session. CLICK HERE for more information about BASC. CLICK HERE to register for this school year. Please email Brianna with any additional questions: bprado@rentonchristian.org

NEW! Secure Visitor Check-in

We are launching a new visitor check-in system this fall. Instead of signing in and out on paper, visitors will scan their ID. The system will conduct a real-time background check against sex-offender registries and print a custom visitor badge with their picture. This will help us enhance the safety of our students and help us know who is on campus at any point in time. We will send additional information about this new check-in system leading up to the school year.

Encouragement and Prayer:

This month I am finishing a book called, Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger. It is a book about Christian leadership amid an uncertain or uncharted future. The author uses the analogy of Lewis & Clark in their journey to discover a water route to the Pacific Ocean. They had to abandon their canoes at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Their mission and tools that got them to that point was not going to take them to their eventual destination. As our societal culture continues to stray from a Biblical Worldview, our path as Christ-followers and as a Christ-centered organization is more and more uncertain and uncharted. Fortunately, we serve a God who is unchanging and we have a source of Truth in the Bible to guide us. As we head into the future, we must become more resolved in our God-given mission and more anchored in Christ to achieve what He has called us to.

One principle in the book that is so true is that our mission is more important than anything. “The focused, shared, missional purpose of the church or organization will trump every other competing value.” Although this is not a novel idea, it is our commitment as a school. We can do a lot of good things, however, if they do not help students develop a resilient faith in a Christ-centered environment that develops a Biblical Worldview we shouldn’t do them. Our Profile of a Student framework articulates our goal for each student at Renton Christian. This is our mission. This is our commitment.

My prayer for you for the last two weeks of summer is found in Numbers 6:24-26, “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” I pray God’s peace would guard the hearts and minds of our teachers, students, and families. Please join me in bringing this school year before the Lord. We can make our plans, however, “unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain,” Psalm 127:1.

I appreciate each of you. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

RCS Families,

July 20th, 2023

RCS Families,

I hope you are enjoying this summer so far. We are busy preparing for the upcoming school year and are praying for each student and family God entrusts to our care. Our facility team is amazing! We have already completed several projects around campus including adding new carpet in some classrooms, constructing a new classroom, and touch-up paint throughout the campus. We also secured outside funding to add new smart boards in every classroom and they are already installed! (See below for more info) We can’t wait to see you back on campus soon!

Here are a couple of things to know:

RCS High School Update

September 17th is going to be a significant date! The land we desire to purchase for the RCS High School is owned by a church. The church board has approved the Purchase and Sale Agreement. The last step is for the congregation to approve the PSA. The congregation is scheduled to vote on September 17th. Please pray that the congregation would be unified to approve the sale. We are excited to begin the next phase of land feasibility, entitlement, site design, and funding. We have already selected an architectural firm, general contractor, and entitlement development team to help us with this next phase. We are ready to run, but it all starts with the land! Please pray for continued wisdom and favor as we take these next steps. For more information about the RCS High School, go to: www.rentonchristian.org/highschool.

NEW! Smartboards Installed in Every Classroom

Recently, we were able to secure outside funding to acquire and install a Promethean smart board in every classroom! The installation is complete! These boards will provide our teachers with significant opportunities to enhance classroom learning. CLICK HERE to watch a video about these smart boards.

RCS Mariners Game: Pack the Park | Friday, September 29th

We have already sold almost 500 tickets for the Seattle Mariners Game on Friday, September 29th. We reserved some additional tickets near our current block. We would like to invite all RCS and SLC parents, students, and grandparents to join us at T-Mobile Park to cheer on the Mariners. This game is a Mariners Fireworks night as well as Fan Appreciation Night. Tickets are only $15 and $5 from each ticket will go to strengthen our school security. CLICK HERE to purchase your tickets for this incredible RCS Family Event to begin next school year! If you have any questions, email: packthepark@rentonchristian.org. The deadline to purchase tickets is August 21st or until tickets sell out.

Summer Play Dates @ Renton Christian

Throughout the summer, we are hosting playdates on campus to stay connected with current families and meet new friends this summer. The first several have been a huge success. Join us at the bark playground during one of our remaining Play Around the Playground days! These playdates are designed for parents and students so please stay with your students as they play. For more information contact the school office (425) 226-0820. Here are the remaining dates:

KP & Kinder: August 1, 9-10am

1st & 2nd Grade: August 8, 10-11am

3rd & 5th Grade: August 15, 10-11am

Class Placement & Supply Lists

We work on class placements over the summer and will send a mailer to all families in mid-August with class placement, supply lists, and other school logistics. However, if you want to take advantage of summer school supply sales, CLICK HERE to see grade specific supply lists.

Encouragement and Prayer:

This Summer one of the books I read was, Faith for Exiles by David Kinnaman & Mark Matlock. Incredible book! In it, based on research from the Barna Group, the authors identify five practices that contribute to a resilient faith for this emerging generation of digitally emersed students. Great read to help you guide your students in their faith development.

Our culture continues to shift away from a biblical worldview. We are headed toward or are already in a post-Christian culture. A culture centered on self rather than oriented toward God. A culture that says truth is found from within rather than objectively found within Scripture. The authors suggest it is appropriate for us to view ourselves in “Exile” rather than in the “Promised Land” of Jerusalem. Our efforts are better served building a personally resilient faith that can thrive in exile rather than fighting to protect or search for a “Jerusalem” where our faith is not challenged. Throughout scripture, you find examples of the people of God thriving while in exile and influencing the culture around them for good. Exile doesn’t mean our faith is snuffed out; however, it does require a different level of resiliency.

This book personally challenged me to strengthen my faith and continued to highlight the need to develop a resilient faith in every student, staff, and parent at Renton Christian. We are adding more intentionality to The Profile of a Student framework. We believe this framework, in partnership with parents and their church, will develop a resilient faith in our students.

My prayer this summer is that God will provide His wisdom to each student at RCS. I pray that God would help them identify each idea that comes their way as either aligned or misaligned with the Bible. I pray God would strengthen their character to be more like Christ. I pray that their actions would demonstrate God’s love to everyone they interact with. I pray that the peace of God would guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. I pray that each student would have a fully devoted relationship with Jesus Christ. Let’s personally exemplify the faith we want to see in our students.

I appreciate each of you. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Thanks,

Randy McMillan

Each year we have the privilege of setting aside dedicated time to celebrate our teachers and staff. This year we are taking the first week of May (1st-5th) to show our staff just how much they mean to us!

Here are some ways YOU can show your appreciation each day:

Monday May 1st - Write your teacher/CA/specialist a note telling them how great they are!

Tuesday May 2nd - Bring your teacher their favorite flower or plant! PTF will be serving a staff breakfast before school.

Wednesday May 3rd - Bring your teacher their favorite snack, drink, or a gift card for their favorite place to eat!

Thursday May 4th - Give your teacher something that can be used for their classroom!

Friday May 5th - PTF will provide a Cinco de Mayo themed lunch for staff.

While each day has its own theme, these are just suggestions! You are more than welcome to show our teachers and staff your appreciation in other ways!

THANK YOU for your willingness to show our staff love!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact PTF@rentonchristian.org

STEM WEEK (all-day)

All week our students 1st-8th Grade are participating in STEM week. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. A couple of weeks ago, STEAMBoat Studios visited our school to demonstrate different activities related to neuroscience in the form of illusions as well as different ways of exploring the senses (sight, sound, touch, and smell). Here are the topics for this week;

Grades 1-2:

  • Escape the Tower: Students will explore balance and center of mass and use their knowledge to successfully send a top-heavy load down a zip line.

Grade 3-5:

  • Marble Roller Coaster: Students will investigate friction and kinetic and potential energy through marble roller coasters and use what they have learned to complete a final challenge that follows specific guidelines about travel time and movement shape.

Middle school:

  • Suspension Bridges: discover different types of suspension bridges and how they compare to truss, beam, and other bridge designs.  In a challenge students will design their own suspension bridge to meet specific criteria such as load, span distance, and material cost, and then test to failure.

With just over a month before the date, Pastor Preston and Mrs.Turner will be introducing the topic of Water Baptism to our students during chapel times on Thursday this week. Next week, there will be a more in-depth conversation where the message will be centered on Baptism.

Baptisms are open to students in 3rd-8th grade and will be held during their chapel times on April 27th. More information and sign-ups will be sent out to parents this week.

Grandparents Day (10am) & Legacy Dinner (7pm)

**In order to properly prepare for both events, RSVPs were requested prior to March 8th and are now closed**

These two new events are designed to share the vision of how Renton Christian is developing each student, more plans and details of the RCS High School, and how we can partner together in each of these endeavors.

Grandparents Day is a time of fellowship between RCS Grandparents, RCS Grandchildren, and our Head of School, Mr. McMillan. If you registered for this event, please meet us at 10am at New Life Church (Renton) where you will hear from Mr. McMillan and enjoy a Chick-fil-A lunch alongside your RCS Grandchildren.

Legacy Dinner is our way of sharing with current families and friends of RCS the details of our new High School including the vision, location, and timeline, as well as the many ways you can support this process. If you registered for this event, please meet us at 7pm in the Main Auditorium of New Life Church (Renton) where our time will be shared over a meal.

Diane Krogh Playground Dedication (Video Linked)
  • School News

On Wednesday January 11th at 8am, the school, community, friends, and family gathered together for the opening of our new Kindergarten and Kindergarten Prep playground.

However, that was not the main purpose of our togetherness. We communed in honor of Diane Krogh, someone who has impacted our school beyond the 37 years she was a teacher here. Mrs. Krogh was an exceptional teacher, friend, colleague, and mentor to everyone she encountered and not only taught who Jesus was, but truly lived out the love of Christ to others.

As the founder of our Kindergarten Prep program in 1984, we honor Diane in dedicating the new playground to her as the "Diane Krogh Playground"

BASC Kids Give Back Event!
  • School News

Our BASC Kids students got an opportunity to participate in a Give Back event this past week. Each student got to pack a box with toiletries, toys and school supplies, and then pray over the boxes. In total the students packed 66 boxes for kids around the world and gave our BASC Kids classes the chance to make a difference in someone else's life!

BASC Kids students also helped support 50/50 skate and surf. They are missionaries in Tijana, Mexico who give kids skateboards to keep them off the streets or joining a gang. They teach them how to skateboard, feed them, and share Christ with them!

Our BASC Kids families donated money to send 15 skateboards to Mexico! It was so incredible to see our BASC Kids families be so generous with both of these opportunities to show Christ to others!

7th and 8th Grade Retreat 2022
  • School News

Our annual Junior High Fall Retreat was nothing short of transformative!

In this time spent away from their typical schedule and schoolwork, strong relationships were built between students, chaperones, and teachers throughout the shared moments of laughter, tears, and friendly competitions.

Opportunities like retreat create additional space for God to impact lives as we had several students commit their lives to Christ and open up in prayerful anticipation to His calling.

In returning to school and home, the biggest way you can support our students and staff is through prayer for continual movement in their hearts, minds, and souls beyond the time spent at retreat.
